DESCRIPTION:
This double flute is a Native American style flute (NA Flute). This style of flute originates from the First Nations people of America. We took the essential design and designed something that is both ancient in sound and modern in playability. Caleb Byerly hand-makes this from his shop in North Carolina, from start to finish, just as he does all of his instruments.
The Native American style flute is a double chambered flute which means it is easy to play, just blow! It has 6 holes on the left side flute and 3 holes on the right side flute. Both of the flutes are perfectly tuned to each other.
It has a comfortable wooden mouthpiece where you blow. Leather straps are provided to attach to the flutes so they can slide and cover the holes: by doing this, you can change the pitch of the drone side. An extra strap is included for the chanter side to cover up the 4th hole so you can play it like a 5-hole flute.
Note: Our standard design is for the drone flute to be on the right side and the chanter flute to be on the left, but if you would rather it be the opposite, please contact us to let us know during checkout.
The Size: The Mid-range size flutes are the standard size for most players. You will typically see solo flute players playing this size flutes. Almost any sized hand can reach the holes for these flutes. For the beginner playing, If you're not sure what key you would like it in, I will make a standard key which is good for small or larger hands (key of A-G).
The Low-range size flutes are bass flutes. They create a low pitched sounding flutes and are very relaxing sounding. This is for people who can stretch their fingers at least 1 ¼ inch apart from each other comfortably. I recommend this sized instrument for a more experienced player.
Frequency Tunings: The international standard tuning for a flute is 440hz. This tuning is recommended if you plan to play with other instruments. We can also provide tuning in 432hz which is considered by many as the healing frequency.
Finish: The finish is made from Caleb’s signature shellac finish. It’s made from a food safe material called shellac that has been used on instruments for centuries. It’s durable and absolutely stunning finish. The finish gives a 3D image of the wood and helps bring the characteristics of the wood out.

Leather Bag: Our bags are made with high quality, genuine leather. The case is designed to protect the flute from being damaged when traveling or to store when not being used. The inside of the case is a soft material to also help protect the flute. A leather strap allows you to carry it on your shoulder. Note: We typically carry leather colors: gray, dark gray, tan, brown and black. Our colors of leather may vary depending on availability therefore we cannot give the option to choose what color you would like. But we will make sure it matches the style and look of your flute.
Stand: Our stands are made with high quality wood that matches the design of the flute. Each stand is designed to hold the flute for display when it is not being used. It allows you to be able to showcase it on a shelf or table safely without it falling off.
